World’s tallest drum unveiled at Nigerian Drums Festival in Ogun (PHOTOS)
Abeokuta — Ogun State has made a public presentation of the world’s tallest drums at Nigeria’s first Drum Festival.
The 16 and 17 feet tall drums were unveiled by Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
According to the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, the drum, which was built by an indigene of the state, was built around Yoruba history and religion.
About 50 countries were invited out of which 10 African countries showed interest in the programme.
19 states from the federation showcased their cultures at the festival.
“The essential thing about the tallest drum is that it is about 16 feet high. It is very important to Yoruba religion. We built the drum to that height because it has some direct coloration with Yoruba history.
About 19 states had shown interest and the festival was endorsed by Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, while the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture would take it up as a yearly event,” Oladipo
