The budget was signed into law at exactly 12:32pm.
The lingering controversy surrounding the budget was finally put to rest. Since last week, Senators and members of the House of Representatives had engaged in marathon meetings to put finishing touches to the budget for onward submission to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
The national assembly transmitted details of the budget to the president in April after it passed the bill on March 23. But the president returned the document on the grounds that there were “grey areas” in it that needed to be sorted out.
The National Assembly submitted a corrected version of the budget to the President few hours ago.
Buhari signed the much awaited document in the presence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chairmen of the National Assembly Appropriation Committees at the presidential villa.
Details later…
